New Hair Cut

Here are the before and after shots. At least she's confident enough to pull this crazy do off, she likes to do it now (although she has expressed that she wants a "new long hair-cut")---sorry, Lily.

I will always remember Tyler's 5th birthday as the very special one on which he played Barber Shop with his sister. All of my kids have been lucky enough to have either been born with a lot of hair, or grown it really fast. So, hair cuts are usually not a bad thing. Unless they're done in the pantry, with sewing scissors and by your 5 yr old brother.

I walked downstairs and they both walked out of the pantry, one behind the other, with big smiles on their faces. They were probably wondering why their mother started screaming/crying instantly. I was on the phone at the second I saw them and my friend thought Lily's finger was cut by my reaction ... WORSE, her beautiful golden tresses were absolutely gone. On the floor in a heap. All those years of having fun with her long yellow hair. Gone in probably 3 minutes flat.

Tyler just kept saying over and over, "But mama, it will grow back." That was and will never be the right thing to say to a mom who's little baby girl's hair just got butchered. It took me a whole day to finally realize that my life will go on. I took her to get it fixed, and I could tell the stylist thought she had done a really good job, and was wanting me to react so, I just couldn't. I was barely functioning and did not have it in me, not even to fake it. I was SO sad. What is it about a little girl's hair that makes her who she is. She doesn't look like my Lily now, she looks like Peter Pan. I will probably cry a few more days about it, but then I'll have to get over it. I know this might've sounded silly, and pales in comparison to so many other struggles, but it sure is hard to deal with at first. This wasn't the first time this has happened, but I sure do hope it's the last. oh well, after all, it will grow out.

ohhh, so sad!! Poor Lily's hair. Maybe she thought it was her birthday gift to Tyler to let him cut it...?

OH MY GOODNESS! She really did have the most beautiful hair of any little girl~ but life does go on (unfortunately sometimes)! Maybe she could look more like Tinker Bell than Peter Pan?! I would love to see some pictures though!

Yes, hair does grow back...but very slowly! It can be gone in one second and take months to grow back. I totally understand, I have had my hair butched a couple of time, but not by a five year old but a PROFESSIONAL!
But just think... less hair means less to do to get ready. Tyler was just thinking of you and trying to save you time in your busy life.

I'll never forget when Maddie cut Kallie's hair. I thought Heather would never forgive Me! She was absolutely devastated! Same reaction as you had I'm sure. Believe it or not you may even laugh about it someday, I don't know if Heather is quite there yet but she is definitely over it. (After it took over a year to grow back!) I was so mad at Maddie I cut her hair short. Too bad you can't do that to Tyler.

she's still a cutie! when k did that to her sister, i told her that she would have to get her hair cut as short as a boy's. i guess that wouldn't work with tyler, huh?

Janelle, she actually looks very cute but I can see why you are upset, I imagine it must be very hard to do. She has a cute Meg Ryan look! Just think of all the cute styles you'll be able to do as it grows in. She'll look cute in a bob. And when you look back at the pictures with her super short hair you'll always remember what Tyler did and you can give him a hard time about it when he's old!

Hey there, Scrubber - I have to say that Lily's new 'do reminds me of your hot short haircuts back in the days. Like Jenni said - she can totally pull it off, just like her mom!

I am glad you enjoyed the cuppycake site. Ok, I LOVE Lily's hair. Yes she had BEAUTIFUL hair before, but I am a sucker for short hair and her's is absolutely adorable. If I had a better hair texture I would totally cut mine to be just like Lily! and once again, think of all the time you are saving!

Janelle--I'm sorry about Lily's hair, but I have to say, I LOVE your new house. I am soooo jealous. Oh well-my day will come--we will probably buy a house in about a year.

She is a doll...with a face like that she can pull off any look! Even if her brother had a strong influence in it! ;)

So I am really behind in my blog reading, and in talking to you! I was wondering if there was a story behind her new haircut... I think it's totally cute, and thought perhaps you were just following the trend of cutting your daughter's hair short (have you noticed, lots of the little girls have short hair right now!) You're right, she totally has the confidence to pull it off!
